Stamford Bridge Tennis Club was believed to have been originally founded way back in 1924 with just one grass court catering for the small but enthusastic membership. Over the years of its existence, like many clubs, has gone through many up and down times. An influx of new members at the turn of the new millenium led to some unprecendented success in local league tennis over the following  years. Our numbers  have again shrunk over the past few years.

We are a small, friendly club and keen to offer the opportunity for anyone who is interested in playing tennis to join us. You don't have to be experienced as we welcome players of all ages and abilities and offer the chance to play in a friendly environment.

We encourage families to use the facilities and particularly welcome Junior members and we have employed a professional coach again over the past couple of years, who will offer coaching sessions for various age groups.

This year (2018) we ran a team in the York & District Ladies Doubles league, which won promotion as champions of their Division.

For others who just want to enjoy recreational tennis, from April time through to September, there are the regular Friday evening Club Nights.

Professional coaching sessions are available for Juniors (all age groups) starting in April. Senior coaching is available on an individual or group basis but these will be by arrangement only. In addition to the organised sessions, members are free to use the courts at any time providing home matches and coaching sessions are not scheduled.

Currently, the club have 2 tarmac courts.

Due to new housing being built in the village, under the wing of the Stamford Bridge Playing Fields Associaton (SBPFA), the club will hopefully be having 3 new tennis courts built in the next 2/3 years.
